ABOUT

It all started in Sheffield, with three budding reporters who share a passion for rugby and a desire to tell stories.

Founders Jack, Tom and Christy all met while studying on the MA Journalism at the University of Sheffield.

Now fully fledged news reporters all over the UK, they wanted to collaborate together on rugby projects that allowed them to share their love for the oval game.

Out of this, the Scrums and Scrumpy podcast was born. It was a bonanza of rugby chat, from Six Nations analysis to questions on which player would be most likely appear on Love Island and everything in between.

Now, the trio have launched the flanker , a rugby website for your dedicated fan. Although growing the game is key, we are not your fair weather rugby supporter who watches the Six Nations once a year.

At the flanker, we celebrate your playing heroes, take a look back on tournaments gone by and pick over the tactical nuances of the game. It’s created by the three of us, for all of you.

If you like discussing the benefits of a drift defence or the origins of the Garryowen, this is the long form rugby website for you.

Tom is a Northampton Saints fan who lives in Warwick and his most heartbreaking rugby memory is being at the 2011 Heineken Cup Final. He often rants about referees and how Teimana Harrison should play for England.

Jack is a Exeter Chiefs fan who lives in Sidmouth, but spent his early years in Australia. Part of the Front Row club, the Devon native can be heard admiring the looks and skills of Henry Slade while supping on a cool cider.

Christy is a Harlequins fan who lives in Surbiton. He was briefly part of the Saracens Academy in his youth and played alongside Ben Earl (but he doesn’t go on about it) whom he guided through his formative years.
